Logbook Servicing
Whenever purchasing a new vehicle, the manufacturer provides you with a warranty that covers the cost of parts failure. This warranty is only valid, however if you have your car regularly serviced by a certified mechanic according to the vehicle’s logbook.
Many people think they have to have their car’s serviced at a dealership, but it’s actually illegal for manufacturers to discriminate based on your choice of repairer.
Here at Michael J’s & Son, our expert team of mechanics are fully certified to provide logbook servicing for all:
- Petrol vehicles
- Diesel vehicles
- LPG vehicles

Contact UsRoadworthy Certificates & Other Inspections
Before you offer your vehicle up for sale, or re-register it after a long stint off the road, your vehicle needs to be checked and vetted against VicRoads’ strict regulations for road use and deemed roadworthy. Michael J’s & Son is a VicRoads licensed vehicle tester, able to inspect your vehicle’s essential components and safety features to make sure it meets Victoria’s strict road standards, and either issue your vehicle a Roadworthy Certificate or present you with a comprehensive list of faults that prevent your vehicle from making the grade.
We can also conduct pre-purchase inspections for potential secondhand buyers for added peace of mind, as well as vehicle identification validation checks to ensure all the parts in your car are the genuine article. If you’d like your vehicle to undergo a roadworthy, or just want some extra confidence with your next purchase, contact us to organise an inspection today!
Steering & Suspension

Exhaust Repairs
Your exhaust is responsible for ensuring that your vehicle’s spent fumes and gases are drawn away from the engine and cabin, for basic ride comfort and for optimum engine performance. A faulty exhaust can lead to a loss in power from the engine, increased fuel consumption and lingering strong smells that could make you or your passengers ill.
Our skilled mechanics and technicians can repair your vehicle’s exhaust, repairing or replacing a damaged muffler or extractor from our range of OEM replacement parts. We can also recommend a new aftermarket muffler or extractor for your vehicle, or make modifications and upgrades to your current exhaust system for cleaner emissions, a stronger engine tone and a little extra power.
To find out what else we can do for your vehicle’s exhaust, give us a call today.
Air Conditioning
There’s not much worse than being stuck in traffic on a hot day with faulty air conditioning. Your AC actually degrades more from disuse than from use, as the rubber tubing and seals which make up a lot of the aircon system, dry up and crack when not in use, allowing the refrigerant gas to leak out and rob your AC of its cooling power.
Here at Michael J’s & Son we can fully repair your vehicle’s air conditioning, starting by swapping out any broken compressors or condensers, then replacing cracked tubing and seals, and finally recharging your aircon with refrigerant once we’re certain it’s airtight.
Clutch & Transmission
As part of the assembly that transmits power from the engine to the wheels, the transmission is comprised of some of the most complex machinery in your vehicle. Because of its sophisticated nature, even minor flaws can quickly escalate into extremely costly repairs.
If you notice a burning smell after driving, grinding noises when changing gears, slipping gears, or you’re having difficulty changing gears, you should have your car’s transmission checked sooner rather than later.
Michael J’s & Son’s expert technicians can help you with:
- Transmission Servicing
- Transmission Repairs & Replacement
Radiators & Cooling Systems
Keeping your engine cool is important to proper vehicle health, making regular maintenance of your vehicle’s radiator and cooling system vital. An overheating vehicle can lead to all sorts of critical engine problems that can become costly to repair, so if you suspect your vehicle’s running a little hotter than usual, take no chances; bring it to Michael J’s & Son as soon as possible for a cooling check.
We’re able to give your cooling system a thorough inspection, patching up leaks and cracks in your hosing and seals, repairing or replacing damaged radiator units, switching out faulty thermostats, and conducting a full coolant flush to clear up any blockages in the coolant fluid lines. If your vehicle’s overheating, don’t delay; give us a call to organise an inspection today.
Brakes
Your brakes are your vehicle’s most important safety feature, but are subject to the same wear and tear as any other part of your vehicle. This wear and tear is compounded by the start-and-stop nature of inner-city driving, placing greater pressure on your brakes than most other driving environments. Worn brakes can result in damage to your tyres and a loss of stopping power, making your brakes ineffective when you might need them most.
At Michael J’s & Son we’re able to provide customers with a complete brake system service, from replacing spent brake pads and reconditioning brake rotors for extra life to machining all new custom-tailored brake components. We can also check your brake lines for cracks, leaks and other damage. To find out more about our brake services, contact us today.
Diagnostics & Auto Electrical
With cars coming equipped with more and more sophisticated electronic devices and self-monitoring features, a greater emphasis is placed on having a healthy auto-electrical solution to back them all up. Without the right battery or wiring, your vehicle’s devices may suffer, from your car stereo to important features like anti-lock brakes, central locking, power steering or airbag deployment.
Our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools and equipment can locate electrical faults and repair them, ensuring all your electronics are in working order. We can also test and replace faulty starter motors and alternators and recommend the right battery for your vehicle, as well as install new lighting and audio upgrades. To find out more about our auto-electrical services, give us a call today.
Wheels & Tyres
Choosing the right tyres for your vehicle is trickier than it seems; many tyres are specially designed for specific driving conditions. Is your car intended for day-to-day use, or specifically intended for racing or track days? Is it mostly kept on sealed streets, or do you do your share of offroad driving? Do you need your car to be able to handle wet weather?
Whatever needs your vehicle has, we’re able to recommend the right tyres for your passenger car, light commercial vehicle or small truck from our range of Maxxis tyres. We can also conduct wheel balancing and alignment, to eliminate vibrations while in motion, maximise contact with the road for improved handling and prolong the life of your new tyres. To find out more about our wheel and tyre services, give us a call today.
